Taylor L. Gist, M.D.
Dr. Taylor L. Gist is a board eligible neurosurgeon licensed in the state of Texas. He is a native Texan who was born in Irving and raised in Southlake, a suburb of the Dallas/Ft. Worth metro-plex.
He attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas on an academic scholarship where he was selected into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. Dr. Gist then completed his medical school training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School where he was selected into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society.
He then completed his neurosurgery residency at Houston Methodist Hospital where he was trained extensively in complex brain and spine operations, in part by the surgeons comprising the Neurosurgical Group of Texas. After working alongside them for seven years during his residency, Dr. Gist was asked by the group to join the Neurosurgical Group of Texas.
He has been published in many academic journals including Spine and Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery, and authored a book chapter in The Essential Neurosurgery Companion. He has also given presentations at various local, state, and national neurosurgical meetings on a variety of topics ranging from brain tumor research to cerebral aneurysm surgery.
Dr. Gist treats a variety of neurosurgery conditions including spinal stenosis, disk herniations, complex spinal deformities, spinal fractures, brain and spine tumors, cerebral aneurysms and vascular malformations, trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, and Chiari malformations. He has extensive experience in minimally invasive, microscopic, and image guided spine and brain surgery.
Dr. Gist is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurosurgeons and Texas Association of Neurosurgeons. He and his wife, a native Houstonian and local photographer, live in Houston with their three daughters.
